Understanding the Hulling Process at Primo Agro industrial Trading

Today, we’re diving into the intricate hulling process of sesame seeds at Primo Trading. Our commitment to quality and sustainability ensures that every step is carefully managed to produce the finest hulled sesame seeds for our customers.

The Hulling Process Explained

  • Step1: Cleaning and Preparation
  • The journey begins with cleaned sesame seeds, which are emptied into a peeler tank with a capacity of 19 MT. Our state-of-the-art machinery is interconnected via a pneumatic system, allowing for smooth movement of seeds while minimizing the risk of breakage

  • Step2: Water Quality Management
  • Water plays a critical role in the peeling process. To ensure organic processing standards, the water undergoes micro-filtration, metal filtering, and UV sterilization. This meticulous treatment guarantees that our sesame seeds maintain their integrity and quality.

  • Step3: Peeling the Seeds
  • In the peeler line, filtered water is added to the cleaned sesame, which is then transported using z-elevators to two peeling machines. Mechanical abrasion in these machines effectively removes the outer shells of the sesame seeds.

  • Step4: Quality Assurance of Water
  • To maintain consistent quality, we test the water used in the peeling process twice a year. Our filters and UV sterilization systems are regularly checked, connected to a computerized malfunction detection system for real-time monitoring. Preventive maintenance includes frequent inspections and timely replacements of filters and UV lamps.

  • Step5: Seed and Husk Separation
  • After peeling, the mixture of seeds and husk is transported to the cascade for separation. A cyclone collects the shells, which are stored in by-product PP bags for later use or disposal.

  • Step6: Drying Process
  • The next phase involves an air filter and blower system that heats the air before it enters the dryer. Here, the sesame seeds are dried using a suction fan, which removes excess moisture, dust, and remaining shells. Our target moisture content is a maximum of 5%.

  • Step7: Sieving and Sorting
  • The hulled seeds undergo a thorough sieving process using four-layered sieves to eliminate broken seeds and impurities. This is followed by color sorting to remove any discolored seeds or foreign materials. A final three-layered sieve ensures that only the highest quality hulled seeds are packaged.

  • Step8: Metal Detection and Packaging
  • To ensure product safety, we utilize metal detection technology to remove any ferrous or non-ferrous materials. The final hulled seeds are then packaged into multi-layered paper bags and stored on plastic pallets in our finished product warehouse, ready for export.

  • Step9: Transportation and Quality Control
  • Each product is carefully loaded into clean, dry containers by our trained staff, with quality controllers inspecting the load. Containers are checked for leaks and cleaned before sealing. To maintain security, the Ethiopian Customs Authority is invited to inspect the containers on-site, ensuring that seals remain intact during transportation.

  • Step10: By-Product Management
  • Any product loss during production is stored in labeled PP bags, indicating lot number, production date, quantity, product name, and grade. These by-products are managed efficiently and available for sale.

Conclusion

At Primo Trading, we take pride in our hulling process, which reflects our dedication to quality and sustainability. By prioritizing the well-being of our products and the environment, we ensure that we deliver only the best to our customers.
